I was busy decorating our front room over the weekend. I got a lot done, but still have a lot of work to do. {and I’m rather slow at decorating….might have something to do with that fact that I change my mind 10 million times…..ah, the curse of indecisiveness! haha} But I did get some simple burlap panels sewn for the room. Just simple burlap panels. Nothing crazy or difficult. I have a lot going on on the other side of the room, {are you dying of curiosity yet?} so I didn’t want busy curtains. {ok, i’ll spill a little….my door shelf is in the other corner} I am doing sort of a vintage meets modern kind of room. It has bright colors, bold patterns {obviously not pictured above} fun textures, and some of my fave vintage goodies. Still working on a few things in the room….. Like I’m hating the sticks in the corner. And thinking the rug has to go. It was so easy to make the burlap panels! I got a roll of burlap from Burlap Fabric in the width I needed for the panels, 54″ wide.

That way the sides were already finished and I didn’t have to bother sewing them. I measured the length I needed and 3″ on each end to allow for hemming. Used this trick for cutting burlap straight. {cut across where the burlap string was removed} Folded over 3″ at the top and bottom and pressed flat with a hot iron. Sew the hem on both ends twice to reinforce it and you’re done! So that’s how I sewed my easy burlap panels. I put the panels on clips so that the burlap didn’t bunch up on the rod. I used burlap for my fabric, which ended up working out tremendously, seeing as I needed 11 YARDS and it's a cheap fabric, especially if you have a coupon.  

I had never used burlap before so it was a little bit of a learning curve on how to work with it. VERY important: you do not want to cut burlap on what you think is square! To get a straigth line with burlap you actually pull a string out from the weaving.  When you cut burlap on a square you may think you are cutting straight, but you aren't. This line looks relatively straigt, but I promise, it's not. To cut a striaght line on bulap you fist need to pull a thread from the burlap.  Start at one end and find the first thread that goes all the way from end to end. Now that you've found your thread...pull!   It's okay if the thread breaks while you are pulling.  Just find it again and pull until the entire thread is out. If you have burlap like I had you will need to cut the ends of the thread out of the selvage otherwise it won't pull.Time to hang 'em up! Our curtain rod is from Amazona and can be found here.
