The bridal wizard in search of light and freshne Venezuelan fashion designer Angel Sanchez’s beautiful clothes and wedding dresses are sold in stores like Bergdorf Goodman, Nieman Marcus and Saks, and worn by celebrities including Sandra Bullock, Eva Longoria and Taylor Swift. Now, Sanchez—who was one of the judges on the Mexican version of reality TV series “Project Runway”—is preparing for a turn in his career with new collections that broaden his scope into more casual attires. Based in New York since 1997, the designer will showcase his latest collection at New York Fashion Week in September. In anticipation of that, he chatted with Nexos on his different sources of inspiration. 1. What inspired your latest summer collection? I’m looking for light and freshness, with natural materials like wood, and others like metal. The collection primarily relates to my encounters with Latin American art, with people such as the Argentine-born Italian painter and sculptor Lucio Fontana.
It is a very relaxed style, with plenty of warmth—almost playful.High Back Booster Car Seat Covers 2. Do you always create your collections like this, from a particular thread of inspiration?Silver Lab Puppies Personality Creating a collection has a lot to do with the telling of a story: sometimes it can be a mood, an experience, a memory or a chance encounter. Difference Between Indoor And Outdoor Flood LightsWhat I try to avoid are the trends; I try to create my own story. A collection without a story is a soulless collection. 3. How does your reappearance on the New York Fashion Week runway affect your work? Now that’s something that really encourages me. I can make a classic dress—I’ve been doing this for over 20 years—but the challenge of presenting a new collection is a creative evolution imposed by the runways.
My goal is not to bore myself to death with my own work. Sometimes you tend to repeat yourself, to see yourself doing something you’ve already done before, and that’s not good. 4. Your customers, the people who are used to your work, do they object to this creative growth? It has been a process. The shops aren’t very comfortable with changes. They’ll pin a label on you and leave you there, especially if you’re successful. They tagged me as a designer of evening gowns for brides and mothers of brides and for special occasions; so the process entails talking them out of it and convincing them that I can create a day or night dress, something younger-looking, for any occasion. But there’s no turning back.View Gallery — 12 Photos Lamarck RTW Spring 2017 Young Royals Attend Queen’s Birthday Parade in London Royal College of Art Stages MA Show This season, Angel Sanchez was drawn back to the Fifties — in particular Grace Kelly’s 1956 wedding dress created by MGM costume designer Helen Rose.
While he celebrated the timeless elegance of that iconic creation — using plenty of lace on the bodices of his mostly full-skirt gowns — the designer added a modern edge via acrylic, mirrors and patent leather details. Illusion seams gave the dresses a sexy twist — carried over from the designer’s fall 2016 ready-to-wear collection — balanced by the whimsical charm of plexi floral embroideries. Among the key looks were a macramé lace gown, whose floral embroidery climbed high up the neck and descended down the racer-back, and a dotted-lace gown with cascading skirt. The palette for the collection spanned various shades of white and soft blue — colors inspired, Sanchez said, by the morning dew.At this years Fall 2015 Bridal Market designer brought a sense of elegance, sophistication, and eccentric embroideries for the modern day bride. Keeping the romance alive in Manhattan here are a few of the best dresses seen on this past weeks runways. “I wanted to say that you can have fun at your wedding,” said  Reem Acra after her romantic fall show.
“You can be sexy, sensual. It’s about the shapes, the cutouts, the make-believe.” She made her point with the show’s opening look: a short-sleeve, embroidered cropped top in silk georgette with a matching skirt. Acra draped her brides in cascading pink and white flowers, even weaving them through their hair with battery-operated lights. Ornate corsets and embroidered lace tops worn with voluminous silk taffeta ball skirts heightened the drama, while sexy, sheer-illusion dresses showed off Acra’s signature, lavish embroidery. At Oscar de la Renta not surprisingly, Amal’s silhouette — an off-the-shoulder, A-line gown with a floral lace overlay Alamuddin’s boasted 14 yards of Chantilly lace — informed most of de la Renta’s latest fall lineup. He also played with shorter looks; a cotton eyelet tea-length dress and a silk faille trumpet gown with a cutaway hem added a youthful charm. And for brides who want to infuse tradition with a little faux-homespun craft, de la Renta showed a ballgown in filigree-embroidered macramé with long, detachable sleeves.
Charles W. Bunstine II’s fall collection’s extensive show notes cited a mix of inspirations, including the complexity and craftsmanship of Charles James’ work. The sculptural satin gowns certainly veered in that direction, although his ivory lace embroidery numbers read more Art Deco. Pops of pink, navy, black and red meanwhile provided something for the more unconventional bride. The second look, a beautiful slinky off-the-shoulder trellis lace gown with a train, demonstrated a refined elegance that triggered audible gasps among guests. Angel Sanchez ventured into a relaxed and feminine direction for fall, experimenting with new techniques such as 3-D cutouts, as well as Chantilly lace, embroidered thread work and handmade floral appliqués. The results were stellar. The designer said the collection was about romance and falling in love, which was translated via frothy details, i.e. cascading flowers embroidered on tulle, silk bows and daisy adornments. The show’s opening look, a floral jacquard swing gown with a collar and short sleeves, was fit for the fashion-forward bride, as was the V-neck gown with tulle insets and lace cutouts.
Romance with a focus on traditional bridal fabrics defined Vera Wang’s fall lineup: think tulle in abundance. She had layers of it underneath silk crepe bustiers; Chantilly lace and nude sheer materials added an element of illusion to voluminous ballgowns. For those after a leaner silhouette, the collection featured five beautiful made-to-order column dresses in nude, rose and ivory metallic lace. Ines Di Santo took fairy-tale gowns to new levels via illusion-lace appliqués reminiscent of ice-skating costumes and glittery finishes, such as iridescent sequined underlays. Pink ballgowns demanded attention, but the most sophisticated styles were the understated columns with Art Deco embroidery. Zuhair Murad knows very well how to keep his place in women’s hearts. Lebanese designer instantly attracted wave compliments after publication of his Fall 2015 Bridal Collection. This bridal collection stunned NY Market with embroideries, lace, and crystal detailing. The Israeli designer, known for her plunging necklines and sexy form-fitting silhouettes, creates truly one-of-a-kind wedding dresses with a high level of detail.
Last season Dror brought us a collection full of delicate tattoo lace, champagne underlays and flapper-inspired fringe that had a distinctly vintage undertone. But for Fall 2015, she takes a more romantic, regal approach to her designs as seen in a long-sleeved De Calais lace sheath gown with gold hand-beading, an off-the-shoulder ball gown with hand-embroidered leather, silk thread crochet, pearls and Swarovski crystals, and a crotchet illusion top dress with two (yes TWO) daringly high slits. The collection also includes a series of stunning mermaid styles with intricate beading and layered lacy tulle skirts, plus plenty of super pretty coverups with cream colored stones and shimmery crystals. Carolina Herrera during her intimate bridal presentation, she preferred to invoke more expected catchwords: “romance, femininity, fantasy.” Herrera applied them with restraint, making deft work of paillette embroideries, laser-cut appliqués and beading on the ivory lace and satin gowns.
