First and foremost, you'll need an image that you'd like to transfer.   When considering an image, keep in mind that light colors may not produce results like solid, dark colors.  You'll be printing the iron on transfer with your home printer... and printers don't actually print white ink, they just assume the background color of your paper is white and ignore white ink.  So if your image has white in it... the iron on transfer will appear clear in those areas, showing the color of the fabric instead of white.  Very light colors may appear transparent making for a muddy result.  It's best to stick with solid, dark colors that will be rich with ink and really show the contrast of your image against the fabric. If you plan to print your image on a dark colored shirt or dark fabric, you'll need special iron on transfer paper with a white background instead of a clear background, allowing for white and light colors but with other restrictions (more on that later!). If you're interested in selling your custom shirt or product, you will need to make sure that you have the rights to sell the image on merchandise, so don't just copy an image off of google!

It is easy to iron on! Yes () No (0)  Report Yes () No (0) As a first-time user of the fabric transfers, I mistakenly pulled out a piece of paper in the package of fabric transfer sheets that was NOT a fabric transfer sheet. I printed my image on it and then tried ironing it to my fabric, only to find that sticky stuff was adhering the paper to the iron's sole-plate. Worse yet, the sticky stuff was very difficult to remove from the iron's surface. I don't know why this sheet is in the package, why there is no marking on it instructing first-time users "DO NOT USE". We spent at least 45 minutes cleaning off the stuff from our iron. I had tried to use this and followed the instructions to a t. I am very upset that this did not turn out for my grandson's birthday party shirt. As a former teacher and current Nana, I am a big fan of Avery craft products and templates. One of my favorite projects is designing and creating T-shirts using Avery fabric transfers. Usually, I pick the picture or graphic and then come up with wording appropriate to that design.
However, my five-year-old grandson, who is already an avid crafter, had his own ideas about the design of his "I'm The Big Brother" T-shirt which we created to celebrate the arrival of his baby sister. He adamantly wanted to pick his own picture and chose a photograph of rocks that we painted as ladybugs last summer. My challenge was to come up with wording to make his choice work. I picked "I'm The Big Brother and My New Sister ROCKS!". The nurses and staff at the hospital were so enchanted that they want to use "our" design to make stickers to hand out to visiting new brothers and sisters. Needless to say, we recommended Avery Sticker Project Paper! Would order again when we need it, for sure. It was so easy to design a cute school t-shirt for my 3 year old daughter. It was very easy to apply. However, after a couple of washes, the edges did start to crack. Maybe I should't have dried it in the dryer... I started with these with my drawings, but the fancy inks I was using with my pens wasn't coming out because you flip the design when you go to adhere it. Also, did not adhere very well to the fabric. I went to the transfers for dark colors next, and it worked better. In 2005 I used the light transfer and the dark transfer paper and had no problems (except that the light transfer started cracking and peeling after one wash). So I am not a novice at this.
