On-campus rooms contain a dresser, a desk, a bed, and a chair for each student, as well as curtains, mini blinds, or window shades. (Curtains are provided in Warren Towers and 575 Commonwealth Avenue) Students should bring a mattress pad, pillows, extra-long twin bed sheets (beds are 80 inches long), a bedspread, blankets, towels, a flashlight, a desk lamp, and a metal wastebasket. In apartment-style residences, a refrigerator, a stove, a dining table, chairs, and some comfortable seating are provided. Students assigned to apartment-style residences must provide their own cooking utensils, dishes, silverware, and cleaning supplies. In apartment-style residences and rooms or suites with a bathroom, shower curtains are provided. Students are responsible for the furniture provided for them; furniture may not be removed from any room, apartment, or common area (unless authorized and moved by BU Housing staff). Students are charged for the replacement of any furniture that is removed or damaged.

The University will charge students for removal of any non-University furniture that is left in a room, apartment, or common area at the end of the year. Furniture in the common areas is for the use of students of the floor or house and cannot be moved from that common area. Any student who appropriates common-area furniture will be required to return it and may be sanctioned. If common-area furniture is found in a student’s room or apartment, the occupants of the residence will be charged accordingly. If any furniture is damaged or missing, students should report it to the residence office and, when applicable, submit a request for furniture to that office. You can view a list of items that we recommend you bring to campus here – What to Bring. Students may rent a MicroFridge – a combination freezer, refrigerator, and microwave oven. MicroFridges may be rented directly from Boston University Vending Services, 617-353-2375. This is the only approved microwave oven allowed in dormitory-style residences under University regulations.

Vending Services staff will move your rented MicroFridge unit into your room at the start of the academic year or semester. Brown And Cream Geometric FabricIf you move from one residence to another during the academic year, you should notify Vending Services; Vw T Shirt Shoparrangements will then be made to move your MicroFridge to your new residence. Installing Wood Floor In BoatIf you move out of on-campus housing at any time during the academic year, you should contact Vending Services so arrangements can be made to remove the MicroFridge that you rented. Students may bring stereos and television sets; however, they should also bring headphones, as there are specific quiet hours daily from 6 p.m. to 8 a.m. The expectation is that quiet is the norm in the residences at all times.

Students may not place or affix any satellite dish, antenna, or other device outside their windows, on the roof, or in any other location of any University building . Bed linens, pillow(s), blankets(s) Bicycle with a durable lock (there's a bike rack outside of each residence hall) Laundry basket, detergent, quarters Postage stamps, envelopes, tablet, etc. Small bucket or basket for shower items Surge protected power strips A Note About Appliances/Electronics:  Appliances, coffee pots with automatic shut-off, desk lamps, radios, stereos, cable-ready televisions, UL-approved hot pots and BlueRay/DVD players are all fine to bring with you, but coordinate with your roommate first so you won't have two of everything.  All appliances not plugged directly into a wall receptacle must be plugged directly into a surge-protected power strip. Appliances with open heating elements Bed risers with electrical outlets or USB ports built-in Desk lamps with electrical outlets or USB ports built-in Curtains and valances that have not been treated and tagged as fire retardant Guns, including paintball guns or any form of BB gun Hoverboards and their chargers Microwave ovens (allowed in the Apartments on Grace) Wireless routers and hubs Mattresses in our residence halls are extra-long (36" x 80"). Students have the option to order from Residence Hall Linens.underneath clearance 5" to 28" Bunkable and Adjustable height; . Once a unique username and password has been created, residents can log in and access the ResNet on the day they arrive on campus. Ethernet Cable ports will still be avaiable in each room if residents prefer to connect their computers to a wall-mounted Ethernet port. There is one data port for each occupant of the room. Residents should not purchase wireless routers/hubs/servers etc. for use in the residence halls as these items are prohibited.

A loft bed is any temporary structure or device that is intended to elevate a single sleeping surface from floor level so that it creates additional floor space in a room. If residents are bringing their own loft bed or constructing one, the structure must comply with the guidelines specified in the Hall Policy. Please be aware that storage is not available for bed pieces that are not used. See the TimberNest website for ordering information and deadlines. Loft beds are available to lease or purchase through TimberNest. Select JMU, and enter the code XN94.Students have the option to order from Residence Hall Linens. Due to space limitations and electrical demand, only one refrigerator is permitted per double bedroom. Students living in triple or quadruple rooms may have a total of two refrigerators in their room. The refrigerator may not exceed 5 cubic feet, total capacity. Students are responsible for renting or buying their own refrigerators.

Purchasing or Renting a Refrigerator Students can visit the College Savers website as an option. Students interested in purchasing shelves can visit College Savers website for ordering information. Residence hall rooms and lounges are equipped with digital cable TV service. Before you bring your TV to campus, please review some important information from JMU Telecom regarding channel guides and television specifications. Televisions are not to be mounted on any walls or university furniture. The university cannot be held accountable for loss, damage, or theft to any student's personal property. All students are encouraged to carry their own insurance coverage. Your family's homeowner or tenant insurance may provide coverage or you can arrange for personal property insurance through a private agency.
