LARGEST ANNE OF GREEN GABLES DOLLHOUSE wonderful story behind the our latest exhibit - the world�s largest Anne of Green Gables dollhouse. We learned last spring that it was for sale at a store 200 miles from us but also heard that a Michigan collector had called before us. Garage Sale store decided that it should remain in Canada. about the dollhouse is that it was built in the late 1970s by an unknown craftsman for a 7- year-old girl in Ontario who loved Anne of Green Gables. The young girl is now a doctor, living in the dollhouse in April 2013, we faced the challenge of getting it inside the museum. The dollhouse is 52 inches long, 33 inches wide and 28 inches high. All the door openings in our museum are 31 inches wide, but we squeezed the dollhouse sideways through first the front door and then into the front room. it arrived in Bala, the dollhouse dominated our front room, covering an entire dining room table.

Its unknown creator had duplicated the famous farmhouse in P.E.I. with astonishing accuracy, but years had taken a toll. The farmhouse needed touch-up painting and many tiny repairs. Once that was done, the question was where we could find the furniture to re-create the home where Anne Shirley a kindred spirit came to our rescue. Carolyn Strom Collins, co-author of the Anne of Green Gables Treasury, sent from her home in Minnesota a large box with dollhouse furniture that she had been collectingWe are so grateful to Carolyn for her generosity. She gave us our start. the next three months searching the world for more dollhouse furnishings from Anne’s era, using eBay and other sources, and also creatingBy mid-summer, the long forgotten dollhouse had come back to life, room by room. It is an astonishing replica of the old farmhouse in P.E.I. that became today’s Green Gables in Cavendish, P.E.I. word spoken by almost all our visitors is “WOW!”.

These free plans for a Dollhouse or Baby House Case made from a single five foot square sheet of Baltic Birch Plywood can be made with shelves to hold roomboxes for separate rooms, or divided into sections for a standard dollhouse. If interests change it can be used to hold books or other treasures. Fitted with front opening doors cut from the same sheet of plywood, that have dolls house windows and a door, the baby house has the appearance of a dolls house, but has adjustable shelves to allow it to be adapted to hold books or other items as need change.Instructions for adding quoin trim and a cornice to finish the house off in a traditional style are also available. There are also instructions for building custom doors and windows.If you prefer, you can build the case and add fixed shelves and partitions to make a dedicated doll house.
