Full Length Heated Mirror

The 2015 Chrysler 200 comes in four trim levels (LX, Limited, S, and C); only S and C can have the optional all wheel drive. Colors available across the line are silver, white, black, “granite crystal metallic,” and velvet red. Some models also come in crystal blue, ceramic blue, lunar white pearl, brown pearl, vivid blue, and phantom black pearl. The packaging is based on Canadian setups, while price, power, and mileage are from the US. The S models replace the chrome upper grille and headlight surround with gloss black. All have body color door handles, other than 200C, which has chromed handles. All have solar control glass; all but LX and Limited have acoustic windshield and front door glass, as well. Every model has automatic halogen-projector headlamps and LED tail-lamps standard. 200C has turn signals in the mirrors; 200C and 200S both have power heated fold-away mirrors. A dual-pane panoramic sunroof is available on C and S. There are inconsistencies in Chrysler’s descriptions, and we’re not quite sure how things will shake out.

UConnect 5.0 vs 8.4: UConnect 5 has a five-inch screen and 8.4 has an 8.4 inch screen, but the differences do not, we believe, stop there. Past information from Chrysler indicates that UConnect 5 uses the poorly-rated Microsoft-based system adopted by Fiat, while UConnect 8.4 uses the top-rated UNIX-based system developed by Chrysler and Blackberry. We do not have positive information about this yet. The comfort group includes dual-zone temperature control, heated front seats and steering wheel, rear air conditioning and heat ducts, and remote start. The convenience group includes a leather-wrapped steering wheel, a year of satellite radio, backup camera, power eight-way driver’s seat, sun visors with illuminated mirrors, and body-color power, heated mirrors. The Navigation and sound group includes the big 8.4” stereo, satellite radio, HD radio, UConnect Access, navigation, 506-watt amp, nine speakers and subwoofer, travel and traffic service, and on 200S, 7-inch configurable display.

Premium lighting is HID headlamps and LED fog lamps. SafetyTec includes adaptive cruise with Stop and Go, advanced brake assist, forward collision warning plus, lane departure warning plus, park assist, rain-sensitive wipers, and SmartBeam headlamps. What is all this stuff? The nifty seven-inch customizable dash display is optional on S, standard on C. All models have a standard full-length floor console with sliding armrest and storage, an overhead console with sunglass holders, rear defroster, a vehicle information center, four-way front headrests, height-adjusting driver and passenger seats, 60/40 folding rear seats with trunk pass-throughs, audio jacks and remote USB ports, side-curtain front and rear airbags, front seat side airbags, knee-bolster airbags for diver and passenger

, alarm, four-wheel ABS with brake assist, electronic parking brakes, cruise, tire pressure monitor display, and traction control. The LX, Limited, and C have standard 215/55R17 tires; S and C AWD have 235/45R18s. Only LX does without a compact spare, getting an inflator kit instead. All models come wtih standard air conditioning; micron filters are standard on all but (oddly) S. Dual-zone control and rear ducts are optional or standard on all but LX. The Chrysler 200 has a transverse-mounted front engine and steel uniframe. The 2.4 engine is available on all models, the V6 on 200C and 200S (for specifications on these engines, see their respective pages: 2.4 Four • 3.6 Six). Both engines are made in Michigan. Gas mileage ratings are city/highway (combined) in the chart below. As with the 300 and Charger, all wheel drive cuts highway mileage quite a bit, but barely affects city mileage. The nine-speed automatic transmission is standard on all models. Final drive ratio is 3.73 with the four cylinder and 3.25 (?) with the V6.

Four-cylinders get the Chrysler-built 948TE, V6 models get the ZF-built 9HP48; there is no functional difference between them. The front suspension is a MacPherson strut design with dual-reacting twin-tube shock absorbers; in the rear, a multi-link independent suspension uses the same type of shocks. Steering is electric power rack and pinion, with a 15:2 ratio; turning diameter is 39.2 feet for front wheel drive, with AWD adding another .3 feet. Brakes have a vacuum power assist, with standard antilock, brake assist, and traction control. For 2014, the Chrysler 200 weighed 3,389 lb, nearly the same as the 2015. The drag coefficient was 0.342. The 2015’s greater length comes despite a shorter wheelbase, resulting in longer overhangs. The total EPA interior passenger volume is 101.4 cubic feet (0.028 cubic meters). That’s 55.3 cubic feet in the front, 46.1 cubic feet in the front. The interior volume is 115.9; One can see that the car was expanded from 2014, at least in legroom (gaining a total of 1.6 inches), shoulder room (gaining 2.5 inches in front), and hip room (gaining nearly two inches in front).
