She also owns the two most famous pigs on the Internet, Priscilla and Poppleton, who wear pearls to the beach, much to the delight of their nearly half a million Instagram followers.Nicholson, who says she'd wanted a pig ever since she first visited a pig farm in college, first found Priscilla in June of 2013 at a place called Oink Oink Mini Pigs located near Miami and found Poppleton in March of 2014 at Island Miniatures in Central Florida, but they're still like brother and sister in every way.
Nicholson says Poppleton, who is 1 year old, breaks gender stereotypes with his pink wardrobe and is a very laid-back; Priscilla, 2, is sassy and full of herself — a complete HBIC.The pigs come to class with Nicholson regularly, but she says she's never thought of giving up her teaching job to manage them full-time. She has a full merchandise line of calendars and T-shirts and mugs, with most of the profits going to First Coast No More Homeless Pets, a place that provides medical care to shelter animals in Jacksonville. talked to her about what makes the pigs so undeniably magnetic. How did you discover Priscilla and Poppleton?I discovered these two about two years ago. I was just looking up pig pages on Facebook, you know, to see what kinds of pigs are out there, and then I came across this interesting page [for "Priscilla the Mini Pig"] and the profile picture looked familiar, so I checked it out, and lo and behold, it was Priscilla. She just stood out from all the other piglets for some reason and she was just the cutest little thing I've ever seen. Bathroom Shower And Tub SurroundsShe [had been] on the Oink Oink Mini Pigs Facebook page right after she was born because they posted pictures of her. And then when she got adopted out to her mother, I kind of lost contact with her and started scouring through Facebook again and found her [again]. So it's almost like we were reunited. So then you contacted Melissa?Yes, the first time I actually messaged Melissa was July 9 of last year asking permission to send Priscilla and Poppleton some gifts.
I also told her that I fell in love with Priscilla from the moment she was born. She was pretty thrilled, and we've just become good friends that way. She's very happy and excited that I love her two little pigs so much, and she even calls me Auntie N. I'm like their aunt now.Do you feel the same connection to Poppleton as you do with Priscilla?I do, because he's her brother, so it's kind of getting a new sibling yourself. I just love them to pieces. What is it that you liked about the pigs? They bring a different kind of happy to the world, especially to me. And no matter what kind of day I'm having, they're always there, making me smile or laugh. It's just kind of refreshing to see pigs being brought into people's homes as pets. Not very many people are very educated on how they are. They're very sensitive animals, loving — you know, they feel emotion. Pigs in general show emotion just like humans do. They sense sadness and happiness depending on the situation around them. They sense also when their owners are happy, sad, or sick.
Priscilla and Poppleton are always happy. I've never seen them any other way but happy. They have their own personalities, I've come to find out, and it's almost as if they're posting the pictures and commenting on them themselves. You just get so into it.Did you tell your friends about this awesome pig you had found online?Oh, yes, they all know about her. Work colleagues, family, friends, oh, yeah. I'm even wearing one of her shirts right now, because they have merchandise on Etsy. I have almost all of her shirts. Are you a fan of any other animals on the Internet, or is it pretty much just these two pigs?Well, actually, I am. There's also Chris P. Bacon, the handicap pig from Florida. I've met him, and I'm pretty fond of him as well. I'm a big pig lover, so those are the three main pigs, but these two have a different kinda connection with me.How many times a day do you check out the photos of the pigs?I get notifications each time a new picture is posted. I have a general idea as to when I might see a post.
