The surface though, is slippery so I do have a table cloth on it when I use it. This table is beautiful - good quality and very attractive. It was a little difficult to put together - it took two of us, and we had to work hard to make the holes match up - but in the end, it's sturdy and attractive and worth our extra effort. The table seems to be a good quality. So far I really like it. My only complaint is the detail online describes it as "expresso" color but it definitely is a light brown.
