Machine Gun Kelly Gets Fans To 'Lace Up' And Let Go At The Fonda Theatre Yesterday when a friend asked me about the show I was going to review, I told her it was Machine Gun Kelly's. Her next question: “What kind of music does he sing?” It didn’t surprise me, because I was aware that she doesn’t know much about hip-hop. What did surprise me was the fact that it took me a minute to answer. “Kind of rap and rock.” From what I know about Machine Gun Kelly, affectionately known by his fans as MGK, he’s one of those artists that you simply can’t put into one box; something he proved last night at Hollywood’s Fonda Theater. He is in fact much more than just a rapper with rock edge. He’s a 6’3 Cleveland boy, with a filthy mouth, cult-like following, and the very least, a great entertainer. Following a performance by his fellow “EST 19XX” crewmember Dub-O, MGK came out around 10:15pm, sporting a leather jacket, torn jeans and t-shirt without much theatrics.

Based on the crowd’s reaction, he didn’t need them. The audience, which was about 80 percent female, blared shouts of “I love you MGK!” and of course his trademark, “Lace the f*ck up!” “What the f*ck is up Los Angeles?!” he yelled to the crowd. “This is broadcasting live and MGK is trending worldwide, so why not make my ass trend too?!” And just that quick, his derriere was on full display for the crowd and the entire Internet to see, as the Fonda show was being broadcasted on MGK’s website. From the drop of the first beat, MGK rocked the house. For a solid hour, he ran through a slew of songs from his debut album including, “Edge of Destruction,” “Hold On” and the title track, “Lace Up.” Despite performing all of his best tracks, the set seemed short simply because of the age old adage, “time flies when you’re having fun”; and the "Lace Up Tour" was nothing short of a good time. Whether he was burying his head in an excited fan’s naked breasts or crowd surfing, every moment of MGK’s performance was a spectacle.

It was one of those rare shows that no one could leave without saying they were entertained. It only took a couple tracks before MGK was shirtless and rocking the house with his cover of Limp Bizkit’s “Rollin” and subsequently sending the crowd, which included celebrities Wiz Khalifa and Travis Barker, crazy. “MGK let me have your baby!” screamed an overzealous blonde girl, sporting a "Lace Up" tattoo on her arm. “I f*cking love him!” The quip seemed to be a consensus amongst the females in the crowd, who hung onto every one of his, rapid, profanity laced rhymes. At one point, a girl even followed him as he literally climbed the walls, much to the Fonda security’s dismay. However, the affection wasn’t at all one-sided. MGK was sure to show love back by vocally praising the crowd and even having a female fan, who’d been to the last four "Lace Up Tour" stops, join him for a performance of, “Her Song.” “Los Angeles you guys are so f*cking beautiful and f*cking amazing, I just want you to know that I f*cking love you guys so much.”

MGK closed the show with a performance of his hit “Wild Boy” and one last trip through the crowd. The show made for a very wild Tuesday—even for Hollywood.

No fatalities were reported at the Ohio Dreams sports camp complex in Butler, about 60 miles northeast of Columbus, where the weekend-long EST 2016 rap music festival was being held.

The concert was dubbed "The Last Weekend on Earth."Maj. Joe Masi of the Richland County Sheriff's Department told the Mansfield News Journal someone began tossing out bags of the colorful candies Saturday at around 11 a.m. The packages contained about 20 pieces each and were marked "prescribed medibles" with a reference to a commercial candy brand, according to photos posted to social media.Masi said each piece had "a very, very high dose of THC," the chemical that gives marijuana its mind-altering effects. Only one or two candies would get a user high, but some people were eating whole packages, officials said.Lt. Joe Petrycki, commander of the METRICH regional drug task force, said early reports of concertgoers overdosing was too strong a description. He said THC usually gives people a sense of euphoria."They didn't lose consciousness," he said. "They just felt different."Ambulances loaded with victims started arriving at OhioHealth in nearby Mansfield around 4 p.m., said hospital spokeswoman Nikki Workman. She said 24 people were treated, including with the overdose antidote naloxone.

The arrivals had ended by early evening."I feel like it's under control at this point," she said.WEWS-TV reported the person giving out the candies was a man wearing a gray baseball cap with a red visor and a black T-shirt with a marijuana leaf on it.The festival, headlined by Cleveland rapper Machine Gun Kelly, was set to continue through the weekend. About 3,000 people were at the music festival on Saturday.Cleveland rapper Machine Gun Kelly is known for many things: his overly hyperactive stage presence, his lightning-quick verses and being a protégé of Diddy. But what most may not realize about MGK is that he’s actually as much of a punk as he is a rapper. Not only does he have all the traits of a true punk rocker, but he’s been hanging around our music scene for years now. This dude is one of us. Here are 12 reasons why MGK is the most punk rapper. 1. He named his album Black Flag. Whether it was intentional or not, MGK’s latest mixtape (or album, if you ask him) bears the name of the iconic Hermosa Beach, California, hardcore punks.

2. He’s done an entire Warped Tour. How many rappers do you know who have slugged it out on the entire Vans Warped Tour? MGK did it and had no trouble fitting in as an urban artist among punks, pop-punks, metalheads and emos. 3. He covered Rise Against—and it’s really fucking good. As a genre, hip-hop is in no shortage of cover songs. But how many rappers do you know cover songs by punk bands? The CLE MC took on Chicago political punks Rise Against’s hit song, “Swing Life Away.” The original track is a slower, acoustic number—not exactly optimized for quick-spit rap verses—but MGK manages to make the song shine in a whole new light. Oh, he also got some help from Sleeping With Sirens’ Kellin Quinn for the chorus. 4. He’s performed with Blink-182. Not only has MGK performed with Blink-182, he’s also a big fan, citing Enema Of The State as one of his top 30 albums. “They spoke for exactly what was going on in a teenage person’s life,” he told Complex.

“Even ‘Adam’s Song,’ when you start getting old enough to have dark thoughts. They spoke on that so well. It was almost a graduation song too. It’s a good song to reflect on life. They had a great balance of music between mood-lifters and songs that you can just vibe out to. That’s my fucking shit.” 5. He’s also covered them. 6. And again, while stripping his clothes off and climbing 40 goddamn feet high. This guy is making this list too easy to write. 7. He has a song with Avenged Sevenfold. Avenged Sevenfold’s Waking The Fallen is one of MGK’s favorite albums, and he also has a song of his own, “Save Me,” featuring A7X frontman M. Shadows and guitarist Synyster Gates. 8. This year, he crashed Warped Tour with Linkin Park. When Linkin Park gave a surprise performance at the Ventura, California stop of Warped Tour earlier this summer, everyone lost their minds with excitement—especially all the singers on the tour, who were probably giddy as hell about getting to meet Chester Bennington.

MGK came along with LP and performed “Bleed It Out” with them. 9. He climbs, jumps, dives and crowdsurfs like any other punk with an appetite for injury. 10. He did guest vocals for Sleeping With Sirens. Not only did he feature Kellin Quinn on his Rise Against cover, but MGK also lent his rhymes to Sleeping With Sirens for the song “Alone,” one of the best songs on Feel. It’s not often you see legitimate rappers collaborating with Warped Tour headliners, but don’t be surprised if you see MGK do it again. The guy seems to do whatever the fuck he wants. 11. He gets arrested for dumb punk shit—like starting a riot in a mall. 12. He’s coming to a punk-rock award show. MGK is appearing and performing at the inaugural AP Music Awards this Monday. It’s going to be a must-see performance, and you can still get tickets today. It’s not exactly surprising that he’s coming, though: The rapper has always been down with AP and the bands in our scene.
