Weight Management Program supported by VA's National Center for Health Promotion and Disease Prevention (NCP). We are celebrating the 10th anniversary of MOVE!. A tremendous amount has been learned about weight management since our inception in January 2006. Over the years we have refined MOVE! to keep up with this new knowledge. As a result, we at NCP are proud to make available to our Veterans the most up-to-date approaches for weight management.

In 2015 more than three quarters of Veterans receiving care in VHA facilities were considered to be overweight or obese. Our goals are to annually screen every Veteran who receives care at VA facilities for obesity, refer individuals to weight management services, and make available different treatment options that fit the needs and preferences of our Veterans. the largest and most comprehensive weight management program associated with a medical care system in the United States. Encouraging healthy eating behavior, increasing physical activity, and promoting even small weight losses can reduce health risks, prevent or reverse certain diseases, and improve quality-of-life and longevity. Please note that treatment options vary by facility.Options of Care for VeteransMOVE! Group Sessions, has the greatest evidence for success and is the most common way Veterans participate in MOVE! Time-limited, clinician-led groups meet regularly and follow a structured format for weight loss. To enable more Veterans to participate, many medical centers provide video conferencing to community-based outpatient facilities (CBOCs), as well as long-term groups for weight maintenance. Telephone Lifestyle Coaching is for Veterans who prefer one-on-one contact via telephone with a designated weight management coach. is for Veterans who may benefit from frequent reminders to stay on track with their weight management goals. This includes daily interaction with in-home messaging technologies and clinician contact as needed. Coach is a mobile app for Veterans who prefer to manage their weight on their own.

Brief check-ins with a MOVE! clinician may be available at VA facilities that offer MOVE! Simply go to the App Store on any iOS device (version 6.0 or higher) and download the app now! Development of an Android version of MOVE! Coach is underway Weight Loss Medications and Bariatric Surgery are treatment options that may be offered to Veterans who have tried MOVE! but continue to struggle with overweight or weight-related issues.
