At just 3.5 square miles and about 300 inhabitants, the pace is a bit slower here.  Whether you stay for a day or a week, you’ll find plenty to do. Trace the old trails that connect the island or explore the overgrown ruins of sugar mills. In the fall and winter, watch whales and dolphins from a hilltop or visit the bubbly pool at the East End, where the foaming sea forms a natural Jacuzzi. And you can stop by Foxy’s newest watering hole, Foxy’s Taboo, on Diamond Cay at East End. Although Jost measures just four by three miles, the island is rich in history. It’s been home to Arawak Indians, Caribs, Dutch, Africans and English. William Thorton, architect of the US Capitol, was born here. And John Coakley Lettsome, founder of the London Medical Society, was born on nearby Little Jost Van Dyke. You can get here by boat, water taxi, private charter or ferry service from West End, Tortola, St. John, or St. Thomas.

Even if you come just for a day, you can take in many of Jost’s attractions. If you want to learn more about the history or natural environment of the island, visit the Jost Van Dykes Preservation Society., our local not-for-profit organisation started by Foxy Callwood himself! JVDPS has a publication and several articles under it “Links & Libraries” section of its website. First, you have to get to Jost Van Dyke. We’re a bit out of the way, but they say the journey is the thing. You won’t be sorry! Foxy’s  own “Excellent Adventure” is botha day tour boat and water taxi service. This is a convenient option if you’re staying on Tortola but want to come to Foxy’s for dinner, when the ferries stop running.  Call (284) 546-1904 for pricing. New Horizon Ferry offers ferry service from West End, Tortola to Jost Van Dyke  7 days per week. Weekdays, departing West End 8am, 10am, 1pm, 4pm & 5pm and departing JVD at 7am, 9am, 12pm, 2pm, &5pm. On Saturdays and Sundays, departing West End at 9am, 10am, 1pm, 4pm, 6pm and departing JVD at 8am, 9:30am, 12pm, 2pm and 5pm.

From St. Thomas & St. John, USVI Inter-Island Ferry Services offers ferry service from St. Thomas/St. John, USVI – Jost Van Dyke 6 days per week. ferries depart St. Thomas/St. John at 8:00/8:30am and return to the USVI from JVD at 9am. In the afternoons there is a another trip between 2pm and 5pm in the afternoon; however schedule changes from day to day, so it’s best to call the company a day or two in advance when planning your trip). Water Taxi Service or Day Sail boats. If you are staying on St. John or St. Thomas, there are numerous day trips planned to the BVI, with Foxy’s as stops. Getting Around the Island “My feet is my only carriage” Foxy’s is an easy 5-10 minute walk from the ferry dock through the quaint village of Great Harbour (walk along the beach front). For the more rugged, you can also walk to White Bay (about 20-30 minute hike, but it’s a steep hill, so be prepared). There are several taxis available on Jost Van Dyke, whether you want to just get from point A to B or you want to arrange a longer tour of the island.

We have two vehicle rental companies for the islands. Prices are about $60 – $75 per day (not inclusive of gas and taxes). Abe & Eunicy’s Jeep Rental Day Sails onboard Endeavour II: Endeavour II was built right in the backyard of Foxy’s by the Jost Van Dykes Preservation Society, and was designed after the island sloops that once sailed these waters and were built locally on the BVI’s beaches. Pitch in and get involved hoisting the sails or just relax on Endeavour II’s wide deck. Package tours with stops to Sandy Cay to complete the nature trail and snorkeling start at $100 per person and proceeds go towards upkeep of the vessel and its youth summer sailing and scuba diving programmes for island youth. Day Trips on-board “Foxy’s Excellent Adventure” Visit Jost Van Dyke’s nearby cays (like Sandy Spit, known as the “Corona island”) or go farther afield to other islands.

Rates start at $119 per person per day and include snorkel stops. Night-Kayak Tour: Depart from Foxy’s @7p.m. and 9:15p.m. You may see tarpon, sea turtles and other marine life, the underwater world illuminated by LED lights that set the ocean aglow. So, over the years, a lot of people have come to Foxy’s for a drink and ended up staying.
