LAC LABELLE, MI - Mount Bohemia, Michigan's only extreme skiing resort, tries to keep its offerings unique. It's the only place in the Midwest that offers Snowcat skiing. And now the resort is adding new digs to its property – a hostel. "It's really about the millennial audience," said Lonnie Glieberman, owner of Mount Bohemia in the U.P.'s Keweenaw Peninsula. Eighty-five percent of the resort's customers are younger than 35. Stacy Kremer, media relations director at the resort, said the hostel is meant to bring a fun, social setting to the resort. "In the 60s, skiing was really social. It had a party vibe. I think that's what millennials are looking for," Kremer said. "I think it's really fun that we can bring back that atmosphere." According to Kremer, Mount Bohemia is the first ski resort in the Midwest to have a hostel. Mount Bohemia already has plenty of cabin options, an inn and yurts available for guests to stay in, but those choices can come in a higher price category.

Having a cheaper option is key to accommodating guests of all budget ranges. Construction of the building began in July and is set to finish by December. The hostel will have two coed rooms with 12 beds each, 24 beds total. There will be two private bathrooms with showers for men and women. The hostel is $45 per night, which includes breakfast and dinner. Guests can make reservations online. "It's really about the community and having fun and making a safe, happy place," said Glieberman. "It's all part of that unique experience." The building will also have a bar on the upper floor. The bar will be the second on the ski resort's property. The other bar on the property, the North Pole Bar and Restaurant, is what Kremer calls a "typical ski lodge bar." The goal is for the two to complement each other but have their own feel. The new bar will be designed like a log cabin and focus on craft beer and unique cocktails. The building will be home to the largest hot tub in the Upper Peninsula, with a 30-person capacity.

There will also be a 15-person sauna in the building for resort guests to use. The new building will be a ski in and out building for easy access from after a day spent on the mountain.
