According to the release, the dogs were seized on Friday morning after warrants were served.

The breeding facility’s owner was booked into the Pierce County Jail for mistreatment of animals, not providing proper food to confined animals and improper animal sheltering, ASPCA officials said in the release. According to the ASPCA, 35 adult dogs and 13 puppies, all yellow labs, were discovered living indoors in small, filthy travel crates with no access to food or water. The puppies at breeding facilities are sold for profit, but many people don’t realize that their parents are often kept there for years — subjected to incessant breeding and usually lacking basic care and socialization, resulting in a very poor quality of life,” Kathryn Destreza, director of investigations for the ASPCA said in the statement. Pierce County Sheriff Nancy Hove said in the statement that this case started with a complaint from a concerned citizen who was appalled by the condition these animals were exposed to. Deputies then responded to the complaint and determined the allegations had merit. The 48 dogs were transported to a facility in Golden Valley, Minnesota — where they received urgent medical treatment from veterinarians. 70 Yellow Labs Up for Adoption after Puppy Mill Rescue in Western Wisconsin July 25, 2016 06:02 PM Crowds lined up early in the morning Monday to take home one of the 70 yellow Labradors rescued from an illegal breeding facility in Western Wisconsin in April. They were being bred for hunting in Pierce County, Wisconsin. They were discovered living indoors in small, filthy travel crates, with no access to food or water. Numerous deceased animals were also found on the property. The dogs were immediately transported to Animal Humane Society for medical treatment. Thirty-five adults and 13 puppies were rescued in April. Since they were being treated at AHS, 25 additional puppies have been born. On Monday, the first group of 20-30 dogs, ranging from puppies to seniors, were spread out at the Humane Society's five metro locations for adoption. Zach Nugent with Animal Humane Society describes the adoption process: "Really we just try to make it a conversation.

We do everything on a first come first serve basis and we do it in person. We want people to come and meet with an individual animal so they get a feel for the animals personality." One newlywed couple arrived early to find one of the dogs to adopt. They had been wanting a dog and stopped by the shelter as soon as they returned from their honeymoon. "There were tons of people in line today," Jonathan Townley said. "I know whenever there is a situation like this. there's always people who come early, wait in line like we did. I know there was one guy who got here at 6:30 a.m." There will be more labs up for adoption soon.
