Mine has been pretty good so far, although my husband has been sick with some flu-like virus. I think it's the same one that's been going around at work. I'm hoping not to catch it! Today I'm sharing the polka dot curtains I made for the dining room. After putting together my post on bold curtains, I was inspired to create my own bold curtains to add a pop of color to the sea of beige I currently have rocking in the dining room. To make the curtains, I painted large polka dots on the plain white curtains that were already hanging there. I have to be honest with you, these curtains took what felt like forever to paint. I love the result though, so I can say that all the work was worth it! I started off by tracing the polka dots. I used a mason jar and a pencil (very high tech).
I started in the upper left corner, then spaced the polka dots down and across one pencil length each. I staggered the dots the the rows don't completely line up. The process of tracing all the dots probably took about half an hour. To paint the dots, I used a basic craft paint in a dark navy blue. Following advice from Corey at Tiny Sidekick, I started by painting a thick coat in the center of each dot. I set up my painting station on top of the dining room table, using garbage bags underneath to protect the table. Then I painted around the edges of the circle. I finished by filling in the rest of the polka dot. I moved from dot to dot until all my polka dots were dry. Then I repositioned the curtain so that the next range of polka dots were over the garbage bags on top of the table. Really this process of waiting for paint to dry, repositioning the curtain, and painting more dots is what took so long. If I had a spot available in my house to lay out the entire curtain I would have been able to finish more quickly.
Unfortunately I didn't apply the paint in a thick enough coat because when I hung up the curtains the first time, sun was shining right through my paint. So I applied a second coat of paint, and this did the trick. I hung my improved curtains up in the dining room- done! The large polka dots are fun and whimsical, and I think the dark navy blue color keeps them from being too childish.Refused New Beat T Shirt You can see from this vantage that the navy blue polka dots tie in with the blue of the lamps and artwork in the front living room.Automotive Air Duct Cleaning Now I need to add some more color to the dining room by putting up some artwork, but at least I have started to eliminate the beige-on-beige color scheme that I had in the dining room (and okay, most of the house).Homemade Laser Light Show
