When Goose Grease first started, the only adult peg bodies in the market were dress shaped dolls. Alongside another fellow Etsy seller, Goose Grease teamed up with a carpenter in Texas to design the adult straight bodied peg. This is how the dress and pant couples came to be. After getting more and more involved with the beauty and simplicity of wooden peg dolls, also wanting to help our fellow artisans, we decided to take a step towards fair trade, establishing a fair trade agreement with a carpenter from Bogotá, Colombia (where Juan is from). Hoping to make a difference in a world full of impersonal mass-produced craft supplies, we began having new doll shapes and sizes built, hand chiseled on an electric lathe. The dolls are made from Urapán, a sustainably forested wood // where one tree is used, two are planted.

In the fall of 2011, we hired a young Colombian artisan to paint our in-stock items and have since trained and hired 3-4 more artisans to help us with our wholesale standard designs.
