Let’s bring everyone up to speed: Last Friday, we headed to Buffalo, NY for a whirlwind weekend making over the patio of an adorable family with the help of Lowe’s Home Improvement. It was a crazy 48 hours of landscaping, painting, styling, & photographing…but we’re happy to say that it was a success. A big, wonderful, smashing success! We showed you the “before” pics and our gameplan in this post…and today we’re revealing what that patio looks like now. Here’s a little reminder of what the space looked like before we got our hands on it. Not terrible, but definitely in need of some TLC.

And here is the patio now… But A LOT OF WORK went into this space in order to achieve this before & after… So let’s start at the beginning. When choosing our makeover recipient, we read Marla & Jon Wright’s submission and instantly knew that they would be an amazing couple to work with. The two have lived in the Buffalo area their entire lives, and have called their current residence home for the past 2 years. But Jon has known this home for much longer than that….in fact, he grew up right next door and his parents still live in his childhood home. He has many fond memories of this place back when he was a kid, and was eager to return the backyard to its former glory! The Wrights also have 2 little ones (who are beyond adorable!), so making over the backyard themselves would be a long and time-consuming process for this busy young family. After reading all of that…we knew that we wanted to help them! Plus, they gave us the green light to do whatever we wanted with the space…which always makes things way more fun for us!

So let’s break down this space, shall we? New and improved landscaping topped our list of must-do’s for this space. There wasn’t much on the side of the house or in the backyard, so we knew anything would make this space look better. Since we have 4 brown thumbs, we worked with a landscape designer from Lowe’s to come up with a design plan. Lynn (the designer) was absolutely fantastic and came up with a detailed plan just from viewing a few before photos of the space. Then, on the day of the makeover, an incredible group of Lowe’s volunteers helped bring her vision to life. The backyard is now lush, green, and full of gorgeous blooms. It’s amazing what fresh greenery and flowers can do for a space. Our group tackled many DIY projects over the span of 24 hours in order to really make this space amazing. Here’s what was on our to-do list. With everyone’s help, we crossed everything off our big list (and prayed that the rain would stay away!).

Even without rain, there was no way we were going to complete the chalkboard in 24 hours (too much drying time for the many coats of chalkboard paint needed), so Jessica, a local Buffalo blogger from Decor Adventures, graciously offered to create one for us! It turned out amazing and really added a fun element to the back patio space. After the gorgeous new landscaping and DIY projects, all that was left to do was to bring it all together. We spent lots of time scouring the Lowe’s website in order to find the perfect items for this space. We knew we wanted a lounge area so the family could sit back and relax. We also wanted a little outdoor bar cart for entertaining, and a new grill for Jon…because what guy doesn’t want a new, shiny grill? With the addition of garden stools, lanterns, twinkly lights hung under the roofline, and ombre flower pots…everything came together to create this outdoor oasis. We are so honored and grateful for the opportunity to provide the Wrights with a Spring Makeover from Lowe’s!

Judging by their reaction, we think they are really excited with the new look. Hopefully this memorial day weekend is just the first of lots and lots of time spent in this charming space! We told them to send us pictures as the summer progresses so we can keep you guys updated on how this space flourishes with all of these luscious plants.
